MILLBROOK 3 PLYMSTOCK UNITED 3 Saturday 22nd August
The Us deservedly gained a draw away to a useful Milbrook side but will feel aggrieved they didn't collect all three points. The home side went ahead when Glen Stupples was harshly adjudjed to have fouled a Millbrook striker in the area to give the hosts a penalty, slotted home by Harry Hook. The Us then played some great interpassing football and dominated possesion for the rest of the half, equalising when Sam Luscombe finished off a neat passing move. Plymstock were now running the game and should have added at least 3 more before Kirk Kierney put the visitors ahead when he headed neatly in from a Sam Ingram cross. The U forwards were now causing the home defence all sorts of problems with Sam Ingram, Aaron Hulme and Sam Luscombe linking up well, Nick Winters and Steve Chapman marshalling midfield.
The second half started as the first ended with Plymstock dominating and the Us soon added a third when Skipper Chris Stoffel scored when his free kick took a deflection off a home defender. Plymstock then inexplicably took their foot off the gas and with only 15 mins remaining Millbrook pulled one back after a rare excursion in the Us penalty area. This spurred the home team on and with only 4 mins remaining they equalised through D Burnard. After another neat passing move Sam Ingram then fired wide when neatly placed.
A harsh lesson learned but surely only good times ahead for this young talented squad.
ELBURTON VILLA 2 PLYMSTOCK UNITED 2
Once again Plymstock found themselves having to settle for a point when they should have collected all three! After a period of good play during the first half, Aaron Hulme latched on to a mistake by the home defence to round the keeper and slot in. The Us then had most of the possesion until Robbie Almond converted a rare opportunity for the home side.
The second half began with two quick goals, the first for the Us when Ben Fisher headed in direct from a Sam Luscombe corner and then Almond brilliantly shooting home from the edge of the area. Aaron Hulme then had a great chance after good work from Sam Ingram and Sam Luscombe saw his shot hit the post and run along the goal line before being cleared. Elburton then pressed forward but a good local derby ended in a point a piece.
ST DOMINICK 2 PLYMSTOCK UNITED 3
Plymstock finally gained 3 points with a fine display at St Dominick. Once again they started well and could have gone ahead early when Sam Luscombe was put through by Jamie Bass but his clever lob just cleared the bar. The Us finally went ahead when Chris Stoffle fired in from 20 yards after another good passage of play. It was all Plymstock now and soon after the break they were 2 up thanks to a Aaron Hulme effort. Chances came and went but St Dominick worked hard and were rewarded 20 mins from time when the Us defence fell asleep by scoring twice in 2 mins. This only shocked the visitors out of their slumber and another Chris Stoffel goal sealed the points Uniteds dominance deserved.
PLYMSTOCK 1 MILLBROOK 0 Wednesday 1st September
A tense nervy game at Deans cross saw Plymstock win all three points with a 20 min Jamie Bass goal. He reacted first to a poor clearence by the millbrook keeper by expertly lobbing the ball into the far corner of the net.
Once again the Us really should have wrapped up the points long before the final whistle as Sam luscombe, Sam Ingram, Chris Stoffell and Aaron Hulme all missed golden opportunities when well placed. Millbrook pressed forward in the last quarter of the game but found home goalkeeper Dan Johnson in great form. A good win for the lads and good times surely ahead.
PLYMSTOCK 2 ELBURTON 1 Saturday 12th, September
A good local derby full of action and incident!
The Us had 6 players missing due to injury and unavailability so turned to youth for this important game against Villa and put in a superb performance against a robust, strong team. Things started badly for Plymstock as they found themselves 1 down on 7 mins thanks to a penalty converted by R Almond after he was harshly adjudged to have been fouled in the area by Dan Graves. Elburton then pressed the Us defence constantly but found Alcock, Turner and Graves in great form at the back, so went in at the interval with only the one goal to show for their endeavours.
The second half saw a massive change in domination as it was now all Plymstock and they were finally rewarded when Jamie Bass rose highest in the area to head into the corner of the visitors net. Soon afterwards Sam Ingram found himself connecting with a cross on the six yard box which ricochet off the Elburton keeper over the goal line before being cleared- luckily for the Us the referee being on hand to signal the goal. Sam Luscombe then had two great chances to wrap up the match but found the visiting keeper in good form. A great result for Plymstock.
ST COLUMB MAJOR 0 - 4 PLYMSTOCK Saturday 19th, September
United won a very one sided game against a team who were outclassed but never gave up. Sam luscombe capatalised on a mistake by the St Columb keeper to put Plymstock 1-0 up after only 7 mins and things got worse for the home team when Joe Ridgeway converted a penalty after he was brought down bursting into the box.
Goals by Sam Ingram and Chaz Lawrence in the second period wrapped up an easy victory for the Us.
ST BLAZEY 2 - 1 PLYMSTOCK Saturday 26th September
Plymstock paid the price for a poor 1st half showing against a commited St Blazey side but really should have come away with a point after dominating the second half.
United found themselves behined when slack marking allowed a St blazey striker to steal in at the far post to slot home. A great run and finish by Aaron Hulme levelled things briefly but the Us were soon behined after Blazey hit them on the break with a fine finish.
The second half belonged to the Us but they could not break down a resolute defence but efforts by Chaz Lawrence and Sam Ingram were well saved by the home keeper.
PLYMSTOCK 1 PLYMOUTH PARKWAY 2 Saturday 3rd October
A fantastic cup tie at Deans cross. United easily matched their more senior opponents and played some fantastic football throughout. Parkway took a first half lead after 20 mins after a great move on the break and also hit a post early on but the Us then took control and soon after the break equalised when Aaron Hulme fired home. The Us were now dominating and Sam Ingram saw a great turn and shot hit the angle of post and bar. Sam Luscombe had a fantastic game on the right side and with support from the impressive joe Ridgeway Plymstock looked the more likelier team at full-time.
Extra time saw Parkway once more score on the break after an impressive move from their own 18 yard box and United then dominated and Aaron hulme was twice denied by the visiting keeper leaving Parkway relieved to hear the final whistle.
PLYMSTOCK 4 NANPEAN 2 Saturday 10th October
Old habits die hard and so it proved for United as they dominated a game they should have won far more easily than the scoreline suggests.
Once again Aaron Hulme, Sam Ingram, Sam Luscombe and Chris Stoffell could have scored in a one-way first 25 mins but the Us once again found themselves behined after Skipper Ben Alcock fouled a visiting striker in the box and the penalty was duly dispatched. Aaron Hulme quickly equalised after a great run and the second half echoed the first with Plymstock peppering the visiting goal with attempts but could not beat a very in form visiting keeper. Goalie Dan Johnson then had a moment to forget when he was beaten by a speculative free kick from 45 yards !
The Us then finally clicked into gear and three goals in the last 20 mins sealed a deserved win. The second goal scored by Aaron Hulme followed by a great strike from Sam Ingram who had an impressive game. A first goal of the season by young Josh Hocking finished off a sucessful day.
ST DENNIS 5 - 2 PLYMSTOCK SATURDAY 31ST OCTOBER
St Dennis deserved all three points in this game as they put in a determined, skilful performance and were uncompromising in every department but still needed an hour before finally killing off the Us who argubly played the better football.
The home team started the better and were soon one up after a quick break and doubled their lead after a mistake by the plymstock defence. The Us though were playing some good football in patches and Joe Ridgeway and Brad Farnham went close before they deservedly pulled one back on half time when Sam Luscombe decieved the keeper with a shot from outside the box.
After the break both teams struggled to gain the ascendancy but on the hour a swift break by the home team was skilfully finished and was soon added by another 5 mins later. Sam luscombe then added his second of the game and the Us pressed forward but were caught at the back for St Dennis fifth at the final whistle.
A good experience for our young team against a bigger, more experienced side - (Steve Rowe).
Plymstock 4 St Stephens Boro 0
St Stephens came to Deans cross sitting proudly on top of the league table but were comprehensively beaten by a rampant United.
Heavy rain and high winds greeted the sides at kick off but it was the Us who settled first and were soon playing neat passing, controlled football. A Chris Stoffle pass found Josh Hocking in space on the edge of the area and he lashed home a cracking shot into the corner of the visitors net, and just before half time a repeat Stoffle cross was expertly headed home by the impressive Dan Ahearn.
The second half began as the first ended with the Us pressing the St Stephens goal and it was only a matter of time before Sam Luscombe found an unmarked Jamie Bass who headed pass the Boro keeper. Sam Luscombe was now a thorn in the Boro defence's side and his cross-shot was turned in by Aaron Hulme to make it 4-0.
Easily the Us best display with dan johnson excellent in goal, Glen Stupples impressive in defence and Ahearn and kearney dominant in midfield.
Plymstock 1 Edgcumbe 2 Saturday 2nd January
An evenly matched game between 2 sides with outside chances of promotion went the way of the visitors who took their few chances available whereas the Us spurned theirs.
Plymstock controlled large periods of the game without really threatening and found themselves a goal down at the break after edgcumbe scored on the break.
The Us soon equalised when Jamie Bass burst into the box and fired low into the bottom corner, and were in the ascendency when the visitors once again scored on a break with a brilliant overhead kick.
Chris stoffel, Curt kearney and Josh Hocking all went close but could not find an equaliser.
Callington 4 - 4 Plymstock Saturday 23rd January
A cracking game at Marshfield started with the home team starting strongly and going one up when a penalty save by Dan Johnson rebounded out to be lashed home. United then changed formation to steady the ship and were rewarded when Aaron Hulme put Sam Ingram through to equalise.
The second half saw Plymstock dominate the next half hour with Jamie Bass scoring two quick goals and they really should have added to the tally with efforts from Hulme, Ingram and Bass but were denied by the woodwork and the Cally keeper.
Callington then brought on 1st team striker Dennis Mason who rejuvinated the team and he scored twice in 10 mins to equalise and set up Callington for what looked like a winner with 2 mins remaining, but Uniteds Steve Chapman chased a through ball into the area and was fouled by the home keeper to gain a injury time penalty duly despatched by Hulme. Entertaining stuff for the spectators.
Plymstock 3 St Blazey 3
Deja vu for the Us as for the second week running they throw away a 3 - 1 lead to draw.
Things started well as early dominance resulted in a goal for Nick Winters when he slotted home after good work from Josh Hocking. Plymstock should then have totally killed the game off when Stupples unluckily hit the bar from close range, Bass hit the outside of the visitors post and Hulme, Hocking and Ingram had shots well saved. St blazey then equalised against the run of play when a shot decieved home keeper Dan Johnson. New skipper Glen Stupples then atoned for his earlier miss by heading in a Hocking corner to make the score 2 - 1 at H/T.
After the re start the Us scored again when Hulme finished sweetly after a trademark mazy run and Ingram and hocking again went close. With 20 mins left the visitors made 2 changes bringing on two central midfielders who changed the game and they scored 2 goals in the last 10 mins with the Us looking very leg weary.
A good point against the divisions form team but Plymstock were much the better team for an hour.
Plymstock 3 - 2 Roche Saturday 20th February
Not a great game played on a pudding of a pitch. The 0-0 halftime scoreline reflected a dismal first half where the only chances fell to Hulme and Holt who fired over from range.
The second period was far better and the Us went ahead when Matt Howes fired in from a tight angle after good work down the right. Chances came and went for Plymstock but Roche equalised after a mix up in the home defence. Roche were then awarded a penalty after Chapman was harshly adjudged to bring down a visiting striker but Dan Johnson brilliantly saved.
The Us promptly went down the other end and were awarded a penalty when Farnham was upended as he was about to score. Hulme made it 2 - 1 from the spot.
Another equaliser followed after another defensive blunder and another Roche penalty followed for a perfectly timed tackle - AGAIN brilliantly saved by Johnson.
Now Plymstock are on top and finally get the winner after great play by Farnham and Hulme set up a tap in for the hard working Hocking.
Great win - Dan Johnson superb.
Plymstock 6 - 1 Holsworthy Saturday 6th March
A very one sided game ended with the Us putting six past a Holsworthy side that never gave up. Sam Luscombe finished a good move after only 4 mins and 10 mins later Josh Hocking raced clear to score. A dominant spell just before half time resulted in Brad farnham sweeping the ball home from the edge of the area to make it 3-0.
Josh hocking then bagged his second after good approach work from new signing Dan johns, and it was Johns who added to the scoreline when his close range header made it 5-0. Substitute Jamie Bass added a sixth before some slack play let Holsworthy grab a consolation late on.
A good result for our very young side.
